SMTV

Since 2009, Alcis has worked closely with the Afghan and UK Governments to produce target eradication maps showing the real extent of the problem of poppy farming in the Central Helmand province of Afghanistan.

In 2007, 92% of the world opiates market originated in Afghanistan. Of the $4bn of illegal export revenue earned, opium farmers take 25%, the rest going to district officials, insurgents, warlords and drug traffickers.

The SMTV (Survey, Monitoring, Targeting & Verification) programme was clear in its objective to provide decision makers with solid ground truths of the real situation over a three year period.

Since 2009, Alcis has worked closely with the Afghan and UK Governments to produce target eradication maps showing the real extent of the problem within Central Helmand province.

Alcis trains local personnel to use GIS effectively and we support the Survey and Monitoring elements of the project.
